Children do not come to the clinic alone: they bring parents and guardians, siblings and other relatives and sometimes even friends. We invite each patient’s caregivers and families to participate in the Open Studio program, to help reduce their anxiety and provide new avenues for understanding and support.
“Coming down and sitting at the art table is like sitting down at the kitchen table, sitting down with aunts and uncles, finding out what’s going on.” (Mother of girl, age 16)
“It helps kids express themselves, dealing with other kids with cancer, bonding together. Helps everyone come together and not be sitting around staring at each other, no hair, tubes in you. Everyone is going through the same problems.” (Mother of girl, age 16)
